Development Begins: The Acura TLX Type-S Is in the Shop

Every platform has a story before the products ever hit the market. At PRL, that story begins with collecting data and understanding exactly how a vehicle performs in its factory form. That's where our latest project starts: the Acura TLX Type-S.

Equipped with a 3.0L turbocharged V6 producing 355 horsepower through a 10-speed automatic transmission, the TLX Type-S gives our engineering team an exciting foundation to work from. While we're not ready to share what's coming just yet, development is officially underway.

It All Starts with Data

Before we design a single component, we're spending ample time learning everything we can about the platform.

Our shop TLX Type-S has already been on the dyno, where we're building a comprehensive baseline of performance across the engine's operating range. At the same time, we've instrumented the engine bay with strategically placed thermocouples to monitor temperatures in key areas under the hood throughout different RPM ranges, boost levels, and load conditions.

By tracking temperature changes near critical zones throughout the engine bay, our engineering team can better understand where heat builds, how it moves, and how the vehicle responds during repeated pulls and sustained performance.

It's not about chasing numbers. It's about understanding the platform.

Engineering with Purpose

Every dyno pull, every temperature log, and every round of analysis helps shape the direction of development. Our goal is to create products that improve the overall performance experience through meticulous engineering. From airflow and thermal management to power delivery and consistency, every decision is backed by testing and measurable data.

That's the process we've trusted across countless Honda and Acura platforms, and it's the same philosophy we're bringing to the TLX Type-S.

This Is Only the Beginning

There's still plenty of work ahead, and that's exactly where we like to be.

Over the coming months, we'll continue testing, refining, and validating ideas as development progresses. We aren't quite ready to pull back the curtain on everything we're working on, but we can say this: the Acura TLX Type-S has our full attention, and the parts will range from power boost to enhanced handling and vehicle control.

Keep watching. We've only scratched the surface.

How about Acura MDX Type-S? Are the development new part compatible with MDX Type-S?

I hope you’re working on a turbo. Once done with R&D on this the MDX Type S should be next with intercooler for starters.

I would be interested in a downpipe ! Let me know
