What is a Chassis Brace and Why Does It Matter?
When it comes to improving a car’s handling, drivers often focus on tires, suspension, and alignment. But one critical component that often gets overlooked is the chassis brace. A chassis brace is designed to reinforce the vehicle’s structure, reducing flex and increasing stability during aggressive driving. By connecting key points of the frame, braces help maintain the intended geometry of the suspension, allowing for more predictable and precise handling.
On the 2016-2021 Honda Civic, the unibody structure is strong, but it’s not immune to flex—especially when pushing the car through tight corners or rough roads. A well-designed chassis brace can limit unwanted movement, providing a more solid and responsive feel.
Our Full Chassis Bracing Solution
At PRL Motorsports, we never stop working to develop performance solutions that work in harmony with the Civic’s platform. Our existing rear and mid-rear chassis braces have proven to be effective in reinforcing key areas of the frame, reducing flex, and improving overall chassis stability. Our new PRL Front Chassis Brace completes the collection.
Front Chassis Brace – PRL 17-21 Honda Civic Front Chassis Brace Upgrade
Developed by Anton Rearick, our new Front Chassis Brace Upgrade completes the full chassis reinforcement package for the 2016-2021 Honda Civic. This robust brace bolts up to three existing holes on each side of the subframe, triangulating the load distribution and increasing front-end rigidity. It mounts outside the plastic under shield, allowing drivers to retain the stock sheet metal brace while adding substantial horizontal support, especially during hard cornering.
Crafted from 304 stainless steel, this brace is both durable and lightweight, estimated at around five pounds. Its elliptical tubing and 11-gauge sheet metal construction provide strength without unnecessary bulk. We TIG weld each unit to ensure structural integrity and use JIS Class 10.9 zinc-plated hardware for a secure fit. Beyond its performance benefits, the brace adds a clean, refined look to the underside of the car.
Rear Chassis Brace
Our rear chassis brace bolts into structural points behind the rear wheels, locking in a section of the frame that naturally experiences movement under load. By securing this part of the chassis, drivers can expect a more planted rear-end feel, which is especially beneficial in high-speed cornering and uneven road conditions.
Mid-Rear Chassis Brace
Our mid-rear chassis brace focuses on the central portion of the vehicle, further improving rigidity and providing a more connected driving feel. This brace plays a key role in ensuring that the chassis maintains its integrity under dynamic forces, preventing excessive flex that could impact suspension performance. Both the rear and mid-rear braces are constructed from high-quality 304 stainless steel, TIG welded for durability, and include Grade 10.9 hardware to resist corrosion and ensure a secure fit.
The Complete Set For Your Civic
With the release of our front chassis brace, Civic owners now have access to a complete bracing solution that reinforces their vehicle’s entire structure from front to rear. Whether on the track or the street, our chassis braces provide improved stability and confidence behind the wheel.
